The Merciless Ones - Namina Forna
Review by Zuwena
This is the sequel to ‘The Gilded Ones’. Read about the first book here.
5 stars. No debate, no argument.
So hopefully you went and read about the first book to avoid confusion. We ended book one with the alaki realising that they essentially are the deathshrieks they’ve been trained to kill. Deka has also freed ‘The Mothers’ from the sleep they were in.
You’d think after all this we’d be done with the surprises and the alaki are going to be happy right?…WRONG.
There’s a war coming. Alaki vs Jatu. Men vs Women. Humans vs gods. Everything we (and they) thought we knew isn’t as it seemed.
This second book is fast paced as opposed to the first one where things took time to build up. It’s action packed. Plot twists left and right. You really need to be keen or you’ll miss the details.
How could I forget? Deka’s going through emotional turmoil and betrayals as usual. But she’s also stronger than ever. The sisterhood between alakis is alive and well. Their bonds with their urunis are thriving too.
Feel like I’m speaking gibberish? That’s your sign to read the book. You won’t regret it.
