The Last Letter - Rebecca Yarros

Review by Zuwena

I have mixed feelings about this one. I’m almost certain that I would have enjoyed this book more if I hadn’t heard about it from booktok first. The reviews and reactions from people had me expecting more and I didn’t feel like it lived up to the hype.

I honestly don’t want to give too much away because I’d like you to experience what I missed out on. So I’ll focus on why you should read it. There’s definitely a sense of community, found family, character growth and a little bit of yearning. If you’re a fan of small town stories, give this a go.

Continue reading at the risk of spoilers. It irked me that Beckett never read Ella’s last letters. Everything would’ve been so much simpler, but the book would’ve been over so I kind of get it. This also relates to him not revealing his true identity - it really wasn’t that deep. I also think we didn’t get as much on Beckett’s past considering it heavily influenced who he was. Last peeve, I wish the letters were in order. I understand they might have had significance to the chapter they were in but I needed that itch in my brain scratched.

I’ve focused so much on the negative that I’m not sure I’m convincing you to read this book. Ella’s kids healed Beckett and he healed all of them. It was nice that they found each other. Beckett was Colt’s soulmate and no one can convince me otherwise. I’ll stop here before the yapper in me reveals everything.

I will say though, I’m so glad I’m not a twin.
