Part of your world - Abby Jimenez

Review by Zuwena

Okay let me start by saying that I like the book, so keep that in mind despite how I'll probably contradict myself.

I like Daniel and Alexis. Their vibe, banter and general dynamic are good. Small town guy meets big city girl. If effort was a person, it would be Daniel. You can tell his love language is acts of service. Not to mention, the side characters are good too and I mean the people from Wakan not those from Alexis' side lol. Alexis found family in them and I think that's what she really needed, beyond romantic love.

BUT I will say things would have gone so differently if Alexis communicated better. Daniel spent so long thinking it would work but he didn't get the full picture and everytime he asked Alexis why it wouldn't work she'd give some answer like "our lives don't fit". Like girl, what happened to explaininggggg??? It would have been simpler to say "My parents are classist idiots and so are my friends so you can't leave your life and come to me. I have a legacy to uphold and millions of lives depend on me so I can't really leave my life and stay with you." See, easy.

That aside, Alexis rarely shared details about herself with Daniel which can be really damaging for a relationship. He'd get blindsided by new discoveries about her, things that shouldn't have been hard to tell (like her being a doctor). However, I do have to commend her self awareness. We'd basically be thinking the same thing, like the points I've just mentioned, she'd realise it later on too. I guess we have therapy to thank for that.

Now, Neil. I better not catch that man. Infuriating is an understatement. Turning off the electricity for the person you claim to love so that she's stuck and feels like she needs you...what does that say about you? Yes, narcissist, correct. I don't believe the so called 360 he had towards the end. Not buying it at all. EW, next.

Things I just didn't get: The goat in pyjamas? (The African in me can't even begin to comprehend why that would happen). How small the town is - how can nothing be open?? Alexis not knowing any house work - sweeper thing?? No way, I can't wrap my head around it. The magic aspect - threw me off a bit but decided to go with the flow.

All in all, I definitely recommend the book. That is, if this 'review' isn't enough of a spoiler. I guarantee you'll have a laugh or two.
